The Appeal of Vintage Clip Art

It seems that vintage clip art is becoming more
and more popular with the general public, and not just with hobbyists who enjoy
crafting and scrap-booking. Some of the classic imagery is technically referred
to as â??ephemera,â? or art that was only meant for temporary use, such as
brochures, fliers and posters. Not only does this type of art appeal to Baby
Boomers and the generation that preceded them, it is also enjoyed by a growing
number of younger people as well.

Before
the advent of the Internet, you had to pay quite a bit to find and use artwork
from earlier eras, so the usage was mostly limited to professional artists and
publishers. Now, however, you can get practically any image you want printed
out on your own printer â?? for free! Most people are using the imagery to
decorate their homes, and even as added embellishments on vintage items they
have purchased at yard sales, antique stores or swap meets. No matter how itâ??s
used, itâ??s good to see that anyone can have access so many timeless mini-works
of art.
